My beloved city has been invaded… by a fitness dance craze… and Zumba is its name.

Yup, people have been going gaga over this dance exercise that is not just fun but also helps you stay in shape. I don’t exactly know when it all started and how. But it has arrived… and it looks like it’s here to stay. Now, why should people do Zumba? Here are 5 reasons why HR thinks you should…

1. So you can fit into those sexy skinny jeans

Yes, it can help you get rid of those flab and keep those abs! You can even go ahead and buy a pair of skinny skinny jeans… as some sort of goal to inspire you to shake those booties.

2. So you can eat that yummy choco cupcake with extra whipped cream guilt-free

People today have become quite health conscious. And rightly so. Because it’s so easy to let go and become a glutton surrounded by such yummy fast food these days.  And scrumptious pastries are no better. But since it’s really hard to forgo dessert(take it from me, I know), you just go ahead and eat that choco cupcake. Just make sure to burn that extra cargo after.

3. So you can have a perfectly valid reason to wear those butt-hugging short shorts in public

Zumba is a combo of Latin dance moves and aerobics, which means it is really good for your cardiovascular system. And not only that! It also tones the body, which means you can now say goodbye  to those flabby upper arms and thighs… if only you persevere and are patient enough to work to achieve them.

4. So you can dance yourself silly without dying of shame

I’m not really the sort of person who likes physical activities. In fact, I downright hate group sports. I absolutely hated P.E. when I was in high school and college. Why? It’s because I’m a total klutz. I cannot, or even attempt to, move when I’m in front of a lot of people without having visions of me embarrassing myself to death while going at it. Yes, I have issues. And I’m sure a lot of people empathize with me on this. However, Zumba classes are ridiculously popular today… which means that if you enroll in a class, you’d probably have a ton of classmates to share the room with… which means you don’t have to feel embarrassed because there will be a ton of people making silly dance moves along with you.

5. So you know you’re not alone in the struggle to be healthy and fit

Now, this fact I find quite cute. You see, classes for this fun exercise can be had in several places all over our beautiful city… especially on weekends. I hear there are classes in Ayala, Pavillion, and various gyms all over Cebu. I’m not sure about the schedules yet though. But I do hear they’re always packed… probably because Zumba has gotten quite notorious the last few years. So yes, YOU are NOT ALONE. Be inspired by other people’s struggles to become fit and healthy… and share your struggles to others as well. As the saying goes, “a burden shared is a burden halved.”

Now , it says in its literature that Zumba is a fitness program inspired by South American or Latin as well as Disco music that aims to workout your cardio and tone your muscles. So if you ever feel like wanting to be fit and have fun at the same time, you can drag yourself and some of your friends to the nearest Zumba class after work or on weekends and start working out those muscles to some Samba, Merengue, or Salsa tunes.

So what are you dawdling about there for? Sign up for a class today!

Line is an anime-like hyperactive Cebuana. She's a wallflower of the first degree. Nevertheless, she's a lover of good books, a drooler of yummy pastries, a wearer of purple stuff, a knitter of baby booties, a paparazzi of inanimate objects, and an all-around gatherer of lovely but pointless bric-a-bracs. She raves about the delicious things she gobbles up at Gastronomic Adventures and rants about life in general at Violets Murmur.
